2009 kicked off in fantastic style with one of our biggest dinners to date. Held at the Brisbane Club our first dinner for the year featured Dr Mark O’Brien, founder and Medical Director of the Cognitive Institute. Dr O’Brien addressed the issue of open communication by medical staff following adverse outcomes. Using his Australian and international experience of different legislative and administrative approaches, Dr O’Brien addressed the medico-legal issues involved when enhancing the quality of clinician communication with patients and families, following a serious adverse outcome. This was a highly topical, appropriate and thought provoking presentation for all members in attendance and produced some intense discussion over the remainder of the evening. An excellent start to 2009 for new President Terry Coyne. |
